i tried to get one of these used in the early-mid 90s, but they were impossible to find (especially not rusted to junk in my neck of the woods). Ended up finding a Fox sedan, which was surprisingly fun to drive (fast or slow), when it ran. :) Even had cool alloys on it that the previous owner swapped from a GTI.

I drove a 91 fox for a few years; 4 spd manual, two doors, longitudinal 1.8L, 80hp; it was definitely slow-car-fast-fun..

I hate these standards. They're completely neglected over here, while we crave for some cars that were never sold here or are very rare, and are common cars and cheap to find everywhere else.

Send me a E30, any model as long as it's a coupe and rust free. I'll send you guys one of these with a 1st gen Gol as a bonus.

I had one, an '88. First car I ever owned (after I paid my dad back). It had 175k miles on it when I donated it to charity. Interior had gone to shit in true VW fashion, but it ran and ran and ran, and the AC still worked at the end, though the ducts were so warped from the TX heat that it didn't blow right. But the form factor was perfect, two doors but enough room to carry all my stuff from VA to TX for grad school. I loved that car and all its quirks.
